Autumn Show Schedule

AUTUMN SHOW 2008 - Sat. 27th September

SLINFOLD VILLAGE HALL

NON-MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO ENTER

DIVISION I - VEGETABLES

  1. Four dessert apples.
  2. Four cooking apples.
  3. A plate of any other fruit
  4. Three onions, each not exceeding 250g (8.5oz).
  5. Three onions, each over 250g (8.5oz).
  6. Six shallots
  7. Four potatoes, one variety (white or coloured).
  8. Four of any other one type root vegetable
  9. Four tomatoes (regular).
  10. Four tomatoes small-fruited
  11. Three of any one type of pepper
  12. Three courgettes.
  13. One edible squash or pumpkin.
  14. Three of any other vegetable.
  15. Three jars, each containing one different variety of herb.
  16. Gardener's Choice - a basket containing potatoes and any 2 other vegetables, sufficient to feed 2 people (parsley garnish allowed) (Special Prize of £5 [donated by Park House Kitchens]).
  17. DIVISION II - FLOWERS (A) Dahlias

  18. One vase of three, any one variety, cactus or semi-cactus.
  19. Vase of five pom-pom dahlias, not to exceed 50mm (2") dia.
  20. One vase of three, any other one variety, which could not be entered in class 17 or 18
  21. One specimen dahlia bloom, must exceed 127mm (5") dia.
  22. One vase of three mixed.
  23. (B) Chrysanthemums

  24. Three blooms, one variety.
  25. One vase of five stems, mixed varieties.
  26. One specimen bloom.
  27. 3 sprays, one or more varieties

    (C) Other Flowers

  28. One specimen rose (red/orange/pink).
  29. One specimen rose (yellow/cream/white).
  30. 5 stems of Japanese anemones
  31. 6 fuchsia blossoms,displayed on a plate of damp sand (may be mixed varieties)
  32. One vase of any one variety of flowering shrub.
  33. One vase of mixed flowers (not shrub).
  34. A Flowering Orchid
  35. A flowering pot plant.
  36. A foliage pot plant Please note that Rule 4 applies to the above 3 classes and all are subject to a max. 23cm (9") diameter pot.
  37. 1 pan cactus or succulent (pot not to exceed 20cm [8"] diameter).
  38. The best flower from my garden.
  39. A bonsai (max. height 60cm)
  40. DIVISION III - FLORAL ART

  41. An arrangement of foliage, berries, seedheads etc, but no flowers (59cm [23"] table length allowed)
  42. An exhibit 'Duet' ­ 2 related arrangements, with or without accessories (59cm [23"] table length allowed).
  43. Novice Class, an arrangement in a teapot Open only to anyone who has never won first prize in a floral art class
  44. DIVISION IV - PRESERVES

  45. One jar of strawberry jam.
  46. One jar of stone fruit jam.
  47. One jar of any other fruit jam.
  48. One jar of jelly.
  49. One jar of lemon curd.
  50. All the above exhibits should either have a waxed disc & cellophane cover or a new metal screw cap.
  51. One jar of pickled shallots - no metal lids or cellophane.
  52. DIVISION V - CHILDREN'S SECTION

  53. a. Age 8 & under. Any article of handiwork of your own choice, including knitting, needle-work, woodwork etc.(no kits)
  54. b. Age 9 to 16. Any article of handiwork of your own choice, including knitting, needle-work, woodwork etc.(no kits) (This item should have been completed this year and not shown before) A trophy is awarded for the best entry in these 2 classes, age will be taken into consideration
  55. An edible necklace (string must be edible).
  56. Colour in, by hand, the drawing attached.
  57. PICTURE
  58. A miniature garden in a standard seed tray (Trophy awarded).
  59. Build a pizza ­ approx 20cm (8") diameter
  60. Largest pumpkin grown from seed supplied by us at the Spring Show
  61. DIVISION VI - COOKERY

  62. A cornish pasty
  63. A Marbled Cake.
  64. A lemon meringue pie, on a home-made pastry base.
  65. A cottage loaf
  66. Cookery should be removed from the baking tin and displayed on a plate

    DIVISION VII - HANDICRAFT

  67. A cushion cover (reverse to be available for judging).
  68. An item of knitting or crochet
  69. A miniature garden in a standard seed tray.
  70. Between 2 and 5 Photos, each max. size 13cm x 18cm (5"x 7") to illustrate a poem, to be fixed to a single sheet of paper, poem to be written on paper. EXAMPLE Exhibits in this division must have been made by the exhibitors, finished in the last twelve months, and not shown before.

    DIVISION VIII - WINES, BEERS ETC.

  71. A bottle of red wine (may be from a kit).
  72. A bottle of white wine (may be from a kit).
  73. A bottle of liqueur.
  74. A bottle of old-fashioned lemonade.
  75. All above exhibits to be shown in a clear glass, full size wine bottle (except liqueur may be in a half bottle) with a flanged cork (not a plastic stopper).
  76. A bottle of ginger-beer.
  77. Beer to be shown in plain brown glass bottle with 'marble' type stopper or crown cork. .

Entry forms to George Munden, at 16, 'The Cobblers", Hayes Lane, before 9pm on Thursday 25th September. (Late entries - [double fees!!] up to 9pm Friday)
Entry fees per class: Members - 20p; non-members - 30p; children's classes free Exhibits to be staged between 8am and 10.15am on the morning of the show

Prizes in adult classes first prize only of £1;
in Floral Art classes first prize only of £5
in children's classes: 1st - 50p; 2nd - 40p; 3rd 30p
